As of 7/30/22, I am currently using the following server hardware and smart home equipment in my setup.

Server Components:

  • Operating System: Windows Server 2019 Standard with Hyper-V
  • Case: Fractal Design Node 804
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700
  • CPU Fan: Cooler Master 212
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B450
  • Graphics Card: NVIDEA Quadro K600
  • RAM: 24gb generic ram
  • Harddrives:
    • Primary (OS): 250gb Samsung SSD 860 EVO
    • Secondary (Media): 20tb Windows Storage Space array Seagate 8tb 5400 RPM
    • Third array (backup): 1tb Samsung 860 EVO SSD

The host is running Plex, Jellyfin, Sonarr, Radarr, Tautulli, Prowlar, and NZBGet.


Smart Home Equipment

**All of the equipment below works with Home Assistant and is currently in use in my smart home as of 7/22/22. No additional hubs needed.**

  • Operating System: Home Assistant
  • Install Type: VMWare Workstation VM
  • Equipment List:
    • Robot Vacuum/Mop: Roborock S7
      • Auto-Empty vacuum dock
    • 3D Printer: Creality Ender 3 S1
      • Filament: Overture PLA
    • Z-Wave / zigbee hub / USB dongle: Nortek GoControl HUSBZB-1
    • Smart Plugs: Sonoff S31 Lite zigbee x8
    • Smart Switches: Innovelli(x2) and GE Enbrighten 14291(x2)
    • Motion Sensors: SmartThings Motion(x3) and Hue Indoor Motion (x2)
      • Don’t waste your time on ANY other brand. I’ve personally tested the Aeotec Trisensor, Ikea Tradfri, and Aqara Motion – and all of them either had severe reporting delays or connectivity issues.
    • Smart Buttons: x4 Aeotec SmartThings Button (zigbee)
    • Smart Locks: Schlage BE469 and Kwikset 888
    • Door & Window sensors: x3 SmartThings Multipurpose sensors and Aqara Door Sensor (x4)
    • Smart TV: TCL 50 and 65″ Roku TV’s
    • Bulbs: Sengled RGB (x2)
    • Cameras:
      • Indoor: Amcrest IPM2 (wifi/PoE, 1080p)
      • Outdoor: Amcrest IP5M Turret (PoE only, 2592×1944)
    • Misc: Ecolink Fire Alarm audio detector, Aqara water leak sensor
    • Router: TP-Link Deco M5 Mesh Wifi System
    • Garage Door (wifi): MyQ Chamberlain
    • Thermostat: (wifi) Ecobee Lite
    • Doorbell (wifi): Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2
    • Smart Sprinkler(wifi): OpenSprinkler
    • Ceiling Fan Control (wifi): Bond Bridge

Docker Host:

I have Docker and Docker-Compose installed on a Ubuntu 20.04 VM inside Hyper-V on my Windows 2019 server.
